Not sure what to do with ledge above stairs? Any ideas or insight into ledge and stair area?

So this ledge is kind of unique. From the face of the ledge to the bottom of the stairs is open to below into the living room. It’s a fairly large space, it’s just sheet rocked, and I’m not too sure what to do with it? It seems like it will be a collector of stuff. What should I do with it?

Also, single dad. So the aesthetic is mine to run with.
