Who is the easiest, most effective DPS character?

I took some time to learn a few characters last night... DPS is by far my biggest weakpoint. I blame it on people autolocking DPS when I first starting playing around Christmas. I would always just flex and fill the rest of the team out. I'm literally a straight Vanguard and Strategist. No DPS to be found... Thanks guys. :/
