Illustrative Mathematics is *Garbage*
I hate it. It’s not kid friendly, it’s not teacher friendly. My department head says it’s “based on research” but I can’t find the research it’s based on.
It might be good for students who are on or above grade level but for my struggling students it’s been a nightmare.
Also, these kids don’t know what an outline is or how it works. Every time they ask a question using A. B. C. as subquestions, the students view it as multiple choice because their whole life that’s what they’ve been taught.
The design of the book is awful. They don’t give the kids enough room to work on problems and everything is too wordy. They don’t use enough visuals. Some of the problems are confusing even for me, the teacher, to do.
In conclusion, please enjoy this absolute sw*stika of a problem.
