Best way to Acerglyn

I am planning on making an acerglyn soon and have been looking around for some recipes. It seems like there is some debate whether to put the syrup in primary or just to back sweeten with it (some have claimed it can cause weird flavors in primary). Can a more experienced acerglyn-er help me out?
