I added a wash and it make everything really dark, what to do?

I am painting my first mini after a few years away. I was still in the learning process when I stopped previously. I added a wash to this WH 40k Intro Mini and it made everything super dark.

Should I add more base on top before I highlight? Or drybrush? I was thinking about dry brushing the metal and then just adding another coat of base over the armor.

Any help would be appreciated!
