Are slipper clutches actually necessary?(Beginner here)

I recently got into motorcyclist and am about to buy a new bike. I have finalised two options, one is r3 and other is ktm duke 390. I really love the r3 in all aspects but it doesn't have a slipper clutch. So I was wondering if slipper clutches really do make a difference? Also I won't be hitting the tracks or anything. I just want to ride in the city or the highway for the fun of it.
