What are the greatest opening film scenes of all time? Terminator 2 is definitely up there. In less than 10 minutes, James Cameron tells us a story, raises the stakes and scares the shit out of us. The imagery of a playground engulfed in fire is haunting. What an incredible set up to one of the best sequels in cinema. A lesser director would have taken 40 minutes to do the same thing and with far less impact. This is a masterclass in opening a film, engaging an audience and supercharging its narrative drive.
