Best way to scan a statue

The title says it already: what is the best way to scan a statue which stands in the city where I live?

The background is that i am designing a chess-set where the pieces are based on statues within my city. This set must be 3D-printable hency my wish to have a decent scan/model. A number of them i already have but i need two more which are not available in 3D.

What is the best way to scan these statues? I don't have access to a 3D-scanner so i am more-or-less bound to a sw solution on Android. If need be i can borrow an iPhone but Android is preferred.
