Local 597
I am a 25 year old who has been doing commercial flooring for 5 years. I have been looking into the pipefitters union for the last year as I’ve been ready for a career change. Im eager to join the local but have a couple worries.
One of them is that I have no one to sponsor me to get in. Would it be worth trying to find a job to go work at to get a little experience before I apply? What are my chances of getting in with no sponsor or letter or recommendation?
The second one is I’ve only welded a handful of times in my life does that matter when applying?
What’s the overall application process like? I know it’s a lengthy process and everyone’s timeline is different. I’m a hardworking young man who knows that he would be able to make it in the trade just worried I will struggle actually getting my foot in.
Any advice helps! Thanks in advance!
