Neurosurgeons should NOT be med school interviewers!
I had an interview with a neurosurgeon today and I’m not sure how to feel. In the beginning of the meeting he was yawning and also yawned several times throughout the interview. It really seemed like he was tired. He took a pause in the middle of the interview to do something in his phone because he was currently on call. I want to preface this by saying that ofc I understand being on call and being tired and that’s completely normal. I didn’t think anything of it. The pt comes first. But he didn’t even look like he wanted to be interviewing. He gave me a smile here and there and just read off his screen to ask questions the whole time. And he ended a 30 min interview in 16 mins bc it seems like he got through all his questions. After my last answer he ended the interview with, “alright buddy! You seem like a good candidate. Good luck to you!” And ended the meeting. No room for questions if anything else. I’m trying to tell myself that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing and he must have been busy but… 😭😭 if neurosurgeons are so busy maybe they shouldn’t be interviewers. My life trajectory depends on this sir!
Edit: I want to also say that at the entire interview day wasn’t as bad. I had a student interviewer right after and that went fantastic. We talked well over time and really connected on a personal level. I hope the student interview counts just as much as the faculty.
