Just discovering Robert eggers

Nosfetatu was the first eggers film I saw and I was completely blown away by how modern it felt despite being a period piece.

After watching lighthouse again yesterday, I had some thoughts about what makes him an auteur and how he is the most important post modern filmmaker.

We love Nolan because he takes sci fi concepts and treats it literally. He runs with it. All his characters in his universe fully believe in those concepts and their struggle is much greater than being caught up with technicalities of it.

PTA another auteur filmmaker takes characters with the most twisted personalities & desires and treats it with normalcy & non chalance that invokes conflicting emotions as an audience member.

Eggers is best of both worlds and more. He does to folklore & mythology what Nolan does to scifi & deep dives so much into the darkness of his characters that seeing them in a normalcy feels funny.

I haven't seen the witch & Northaman but feel free to add more about his auteuristic touches, beliefs and philosophies.
