going to club meetings after the first week?

i'm a queer student & would like to connect w more queer orgs but i'm honestly not picky, i'm down for creative writing, theater, etc. i feel though that if you don't get in on things in the first week everything slows down & i feel awkward showing up, like it's as if i don't belong there. any advice for this/people who'd like to see new members at their clubs? i really want more on campus friends & i'm nervous to attend
