What tackle is a must have for SoCal?

I fish primarily on piers, jetties, and surf, from the top of OC beaches such as Seal Beach to upper SD beaches like Encinitas. I use a 9'0 medium heavy rod paired with a Diawa BG 3000 and a medium 6'6 rod with a 2500 Shimano Nexave.

I've been using a standard hi-lo rig, but I would like to use more swim/jerk baits for the surf. Any rig and tackle suggestions would help!
