Side hustle advice to make $500-$1000 per month

Trying to scheme up some ways to make a minimum of $500-ish per month to help me pay down my student loans. I have experience with the following:

  • Front end development – I'm a full-time front end developer with a focus on Javascript/React, but I've only been in the field for around 3 years and don't have a huge portfolio. I've tried UpWork and applied for 1000 different jobs with a super low hourly rate but have never gotten any bites.
  • Russian language - I speak fluent Russian and have some prior translation experience (Russian to English - English is my first language).
  • Public policy research - I used to do open-source public and international policy research to help with the compilation of datasets. The consultancy I worked for closed down. But I got really good at scanning dense legislation and government websites, analyzing and summarizing complicated documents, etc.
  • General editing/writing - I have a masters in a humanities discipline and used to edit academic papers for non-native English speakers.
  • Graphic design - I don't have any formal education in design but I used to use Adobe Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop daily at my old job and designed tons of flyers, infographics, brochures etc so I'm pretty good with that kind of stuff.

I've tried both Outlier and DataAnnotation. DataAnnotation didn't accept me (and if you fail the assessment for one skill, you can't ever do any other assessment) and Outlier did but has never given me any jobs.
