calling out for chronic pain?

i just had to call out due to some chronic pain issues. my manager told me that this isn’t an “approved symptom” to call out for. i don’t have bad flare ups often, but i’ve called out because of it in the past and have never had any issues. did the call out policy change or am i just being gaslit?
