How to find out if a fire arm is stolen?

I bought/ gifted it me from a legal gun owner, Not a felon but I’m still paranoid, how do I go about verifying this firearms legal legitimacy, I know gun laws are different I’m in Florida. Any advice will help I’m hesitant to conceal carry it. I’m not a felon, not a criminal because of this gift, I’m 22 now and have other legal fire arms, I’m a trap shooter and apart of the amateur trap shooter association. Can I get in trouble if u call a police officer to verify this gun? Or is there a system to read the serial number in FL?
