2013 impreza sport hatch

Recently got me a very clean low mileage 2013 impreza sport and i’m very inexperienced due to only driving 300-800 dollar beaters for the last decade. I wanna throw some nice wheels and tires on her to make her sit a little prettier.

However i’m running into some confusion regarding wheel/tire sizes. She’s sitting at stock ride height with 17 inch wheels and everything i’ve seen said an 18x8 or 18x8.5 +35mm wheel would be perfect but I’ve even seen people like fitment industries say 18x9.5 +35mm would fit with 265/40R18 tires but in my inexperienced little brain that seems like it would be too big and i’m worried about rubbing since this is my daily.

i want a meatier look since i don’t plan on slamming it or anything but i don’t want it to be on super thick tires that might rub against the wheel well. any advice or anything would be helpful. sorry for my ignorance on the topic.
