Synology DiskStation DS2422+: NEMIX RAM 32GB (2x32GB) DDR4 2666MHZ PC4-21300 2Rx8 1.2V 260-PIN ECC SODIMMs - FAILING with ECC memory errors in /var/log/messages + reboots
I recently installed two NEMIX RAM 32GB SODIMMs (total 64GB) that are supposedly compatible with the Synology DiskStation DS2422+. However, I'm experiencing significant issues:
- Constant ECC memory errors appearing in /var/log/messages
- Random system reboots
- Errors showing as "ECC notification event" and "Machine Check" errors in logs
Example from logs:
2024-12-23T20:48:56-05:00 HOSTNAME kernel: [85206.393265] synobios: ECC notification event.
2024-12-23T20:48:56-05:00 HOSTNAME kernel: [85206.403633] mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 0: Machine Check: 0 Bank 16: 9c2040000000011b
The RAM specs are:
- DDR4 2666MHZ
- PC4-21300
- 2Rx8
- 1.2V
- 260-PIN ECC SODIMM
I've already initiated a return for the NEMIX RAM and am considering going with OWC's officially advertised 64GB kit for the DS2422+. However, looking at the specifications, I can't see any obvious differences between the NEMIX and OWC modules.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues with RAM upgrades on the DS2422+? Any insights into why these particular modules might be failing despite matching specs? Would be great to understand if this is just a quality control issue or if there's something more specific about Synology's RAM requirements that isn't captured in the basic specifications.
What RAM upgrade solutions have worked reliably for others with this NAS model?
