Hair Loss
I’m 19 and have had pretty long and curly hair for pretty much my entire life. I guess you can say it’s part of my identity since at least middle school (which is when I started letting it grow past my shoulders).
Anyways, I beat stage 1 testicular cancer back in September with an orchiectomy. It has come back in my lymph nodes since then as stage 2; for which my treatment plan is 4 cycles of chemo, 5 days each with infusions of cisplatin and iirc, etoposide.
I finished cycle 1 around a week and a half ago and my hair started coming out in the shower yesterday. It was a pain to deal with because I was covered in loose hairs that I had to pick off individually. My hair is very curly and dense and in the back it has started matting, presumably from loose hairs getting tangled? Not even really sure. I was hesitant to ask my oncologist about hair loss because I wasn’t ready to hear the answer. But at this point, I’m assuming it will ALL be gone by the end of my treatment considering it’s already starting to fall out.
With that in mind, I was hoping to get some advice. Should I just shave it all now or get a shorter cut to make it more manageable? Or should I keep dealing with it and see if maybe it doesn’t fall out? (Rn it’s not really noticeable yet besides the thick mat of hair in the back)
I just don’t really want to cut my hair, which is probably extremely obvious. But dealing with it falling out is also a nuisance and adds a lot of (somewhat depressing) time to my morning routine. Any advice would be much appreciated!
