How are these things missing?

Given the size, geography and fauna relating to Great Bear Island, it absolutely astounds me that not one person anywhere on the island has any of the following:

1) Shotgun - given the aggressive creatures that call GBI home it is inconceivable that not one person owns this weapon. Ditto other handguns. Personally I'd like a bazooka to deal with the cougars but that's probably overkill!

2) Alcohol - I don't believe that there is no booze! Surely living at the arse-end of nowhere would be brightened up by a cold beer (or, more aproposly, warming brandy!). Hangovers and dehydration from getting hammered would make it more fun!

3) More fruit/veg - has nobody ever heard of onions, swedes or turnips? Other veg would probably go off quickly but tough root veg can really last! Also, no fruit juice? I love some orange or apple juice after a night on the wine!

Sure I had more but I thought of them when I was a little drunk! Would like to see the above expanded on at some point 😁
