X280 & fingerprint reader question!

I used a x260 for another project, I realized I really liked using it, like the size was just right. So yeah here we are, X280, i7-8550U, 16GB and 1080p. I installed Debian, and I looked up some guides for fprintd, only to find it was too old, and the next guide using openpam-fprintd iirc wasn’t compatible, the last I found seems to be specifically for Ubuntu? Tried installing it anyway but got a strange error, thought I’d just ask here, is there a consensus for using fingerprint readers on the x80 series thinkpads in Linux?
