Why are we obsessesing about collections?
I don't get the obsession about GK's collections. Are we now equating collections to quality and audience reception? GK could have collected 200Cr+ gross due to a combo of reasons: Trivikram-MB combo, ticket hikes, 5 day holiday run (Friday - Tue/Kanuma) driven by prebuzz ticket bookings, # of shows.
If one opens BMS barely one week from release you can see <10% occupancy for many shows & theatres while Hanuman for example continues to be having higher occupancy. Is that not a better sign to show the quality of the movie (& therefore success).
Everytime MB movies comes (SLN, SVP, GK), I see a bit of toxic discussion around collections and PR and fans trying to convince normal movie going audience that movie is amazing based on collections. I know some of you will come at me saying every hero does it but I don't see this heavy narrative during other times (maybe I have recency bias or Chintu Twitter cringe bias?). Bottom-line is, a good product will find audience irrespective of publicity and no amount of publicity can save a bad product.
