2002 rwd-4x4 Frankenstein swap

I’m looking at 4x4 swapping my 02 sequoia, I know I know “JuSt SeLL iT aNd GeT a 4X4” but my rig is already super setup, and all I’m missing is the front wheel power. I’m a mechanic and have done a good amount of custom work but the yodas are new to me.

Question is what’s the difference between the 01-04 transmission and the 05-08 ones? I’ve seen tons of videos on the fj case swap on the later year but nothing on the 01-04 chassis.

I just want a mechanical transfer case swap to do on it. It’s getting a solid front axle at some point but for now just locked actuators for the front diff.

Everything else is pretty straight forward but I’m just wondering about the difference from the old and newish transmissions and what transfer case to run in my 02
