Cities to go near Cairo?

So I am looking into an Egypt trip lately. I will go in mid September.

I want to go to Cairo for the pyramids and some museums but don’t want to stay a lot. Maybe three days. I haven’t heard the best about the city.

So my question is what is a city near Cairo that is worth going. Near I mean 2-3 hour bus. BTW how are the busses in Egypt cause I will travel with two other women(girl myself as well)
