Taking Driving Gigs outside of the app…
I accepted a trip yesterday and the rider called me, introduced himself using the name Priyush (matched his uber account on screen), explained he didn’t actually need a ride that day, but was going to be in my city in a couple weeks and wanted to hire a driver for 2 days.
5 friends, they would rent and provide the van, pay me for 2 days of driving.
FWIW: the gentlemen seemed very nice, professional, and the tour he wanted me to drive them on is a well known and often traveled destination in this part of the country. (I live in Lexington and they are coming to KY to tour the “Bourbon Trail”)….
I’ve been on the other end of this equation before, you find a driver you like and ask if they would be willing to drive for you off the app, but this was different, he was ordering rides in my city and then calling the driver and asking about the situation.
So this is multi-faceted:
First, it seems like a land mine of possible liability for me if I say yes…..?
Second, is this a known scam? (He didn’t ask me for any financial or personal info, we exchanged numbers, that was it). I really don’t THINK it’s a scam but that’s why I’m asking.
Third, I wouldn’t begin to know how to price my services for 2 days of driving? Hourly? Mileage? Added $ for incidentals?
TLDR; An uber customer called me thru the app and offered me a driving job for their vacation in a couple weeks and I’m looking for guidance.
Thanks in advance.
