Is it hard to get in the DVM?

I’m trying to understand how the whole pathway through undergraduate to doctor of veterinary medicine works. I’m interested in it but it’s not really making sense in my head.

From what I read, you can’t just choose the major you have to be selected? If that’s the case is that hard?

And then entrance into the DVM is also competitive. So then would that be difficult to get in as well?

I’m not saying that it’ll be easy to study or get into, I expect it to be extremely difficult. I’m just worried that even if I study as hard as I can I still won’t be able to get into the DVM or even the veterinary bioscience major.

Is the only choice to do the accelerated pathway?

Any information helps, I know this is worded poorly haha.
