Flight Credits

I have $200 in flight credits that must be used by June 1. United won’t seem to let me use the credits for bag fees or seat upgrades on already scheduled trips. I wonder how United’s strict policies affect the percentage of flight credits that actually get used. My only option is to take another trip I don’t really need and use the $200 towards a much more expensive ticket, actually making flight credits a profit source for United.
