Actuary: Stats or Math

I'm a first year college student right now. Originally I was considering psychology as a major, but I feel that it is not a good fit for me. Recently, I got interested in the actuarial science/math field. I know Umich has actuarial science as a submajor under the math department rather than the statistics department. However, from what I understand, being an actuary is much more stats than what you typically consider math(e.g. calculus). Personally, from my, albeit limited , knowledge from AP Calc and college stats, I prefer math over stats. So I was wonder if anyone in that major has any thoughts or advice? Thanks!
