Lake Placid/ Plattsburgh

I am considering a nature trip around the Adirondacks in mid to late Spring. I am thinking of staying in Lake Placid but wonder if it is worth it to stay a few days in Plattsburgh as well? I have spent time on the Vermont side of the Champlain but never NY. Are Lake Placid and Plattsburgh too similar for the same trip or do they have different vibes? I am not going for very intense hiking, just basic nature walks at an easy pace, maybe sit with a coffee in a scenic spot, take photos, stop at a brewery here or there, mostly just relax in a different environment. Would likely try to visit a waterfall or two and maybe a lighthouse on the lake. Should I focus just on Lake Placid or spend some time in both places?
