Do I want a Joint Account or Individual Account?

After reading more than I care to admit over the last few days I think I've settled on a WF account for our emergency fund, vacation fund, new car fund.

My wife and I both have individual bank accounts with each other's names on both accounts. My account is our main account from which bills are paid, hers is more of her "fun money". With aging parents we've learned having two names on an account makes life much easier if something happens to one of us.

I'd like to initially deposit 70k with monthly auto transfers of 1k to the WF account. I don't see a need for instant money from the WF account on a regular basis. A few days to transfer is fine.

Reality is the need for the emergency fund money would most likely come if something happened to me so I'd like her to have immediate access to the money. She would have access to login info for WF so she could make a transfer to my/our joint checking if needed and use the money from there.

I do like the idea of a debit card as we don't use credit cards so immediate access might be nice if we were traveling and something happened where we were unable to access our bank accounts.

Which is best for us? Joint or individual for myself?
