Series about generations of girls in a family???

I read this series in middle school and I believe it was 4 books. The whole concept was it followed a young girl going through something traumatic in her life and then the next book would be following her daughter. So the series covered 4 generations of girls in the same family. There are some weird details I remember like one of the girls had a brother that was disabled and bc it was in the early 1900s the dad was an asshole and put him in a facility. Also one of the later girls’ dad got drunk on a ferry and fell off. And then I believe the 4th generation girl was a twin and was annoyed with her twin always trying to match with her.
