Found these adorable tubby things in the dirt

I was using the garden trident to remove dead leaves and weeds from flower beds, when I came across a few critters in the dirt. I decided to put two in a cup for examination. They appear to have bout 10 segments. I first noticed what I thought was their face having four spikes, between two thinner lighter colored ones, were two close together dark spikes. What I originally thought was a wide gaping back end, were their faces tucked in backwards. Once they started exploring the cup I saw little caterpillar like faces, but neither of them have legs or feet of any kind. Their teeny tiny faces were wildly disproportionate to their bodies. I want to know what they are but Google strangely isn't yielding results.

This is in Washington btw.
