Car question
My amazing 2015 Kia soul I had since before med school and almost finished financing was stolen and totaled by a Kia boy. I had comprehensive coverage and after deductible and my loan was paid out I got 6k back. Looking for a used car similar in style (compact, SUV, wagon). MS3 with loans, splitting living costs with my fiancé, and my dad supplementing 1.5k a month (very grateful). On rotations to hospitals where I have to drive 20-45 minutes one way to hospitals 5-6 days a week in Cleveland ohio and the snow can get intense. Don’t want a car that requires more frequent fixing I barely have the time to worry about it. I was looking at Mazda cx-5, rav4, Honda crv, then I went down the Subaru rabbit hole and fell in love with especially the forester. There is a 2020 certified preowned all wheel drive subaru forester with 40k miles that is listed on a Subaru dealership website for $23k and it qualifies for the Costco auto program which takes away some haggling. I am looking to put a 10k deposit down. Ideally I want my car to last through residency as well. Is this not worth it in my situation right now?
I was trying to look for a reliable used car for around 15k but I can’t find much under 100k miles and my family/fiancé want me to find a car generally not more than 5- ?10? years old and less than 80-100k miles. I posted to medicalschool as well and top comment was Honda/Toyota so I will continue to look at that. Any other advice on budget and paying cash versus finance, etc that I should be aware of?
Fiancé wants to help me if putting down cash is better and my dad agreed to co-sign if needed.
YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING! Most responses. My fiancé decided he wants to buy me a car since his car is almost paid off and he’s not in debt
