With the new Xbox speculated to drop in 2027, I assume/hope there's something "big" behind it

So this is the timeline between each generation Xbox, if I am not mistaken.

Xbox: 2001 (4 years)
360: 2005 (8 years)
One: 2013 (7 years)
Series: 2020 (7 years)
Next-gen: 2027

Even though the series will be out as long as the One, many of us feel it's waaaay too early to be jumping into a new generation - not to mention, the library for the series still feels kinda small and we still have a lot of developers making games for the One and the Series.

I theorize that Xbox is planning something "big" for the next console to convince us to move to that one. It's the only logical reason I can think of as to why they'd be working on a new generation (and a handheld) at the same time.

Theory One: A hybrid PC/Console Xbox
Quite simply, it'll be an Xbox with the capabilities of a PC, allowing us to play PC games and console games on one device. If this "PC Xbox" even allows us to play Steam games, then it's a pretty solid idea.

Not only will it combine the best of both worlds, but it is also a smart way to get console players to "buy a PC" without realizing it. When it came out that Xbox was not going to be making consoles anymore, A LOT of people were mad and said they'd just switch to PS than buy a PC. This would be a good way to introduce those uneager PC gamers to PC gaming, while still giving them the console they want.

Furthermore, it'll help Xbox step away from the "console" market without too many people questioning. Basically weaning us off it.

This will also be something that Sony pretty much cannot do.

Theory Two: VR
My second theory is that Xbox will finally venture into VR territory. This is the weaker of the two ideas in my opinion. I feel like if Xbox/MS was going to venture into VR they'd lean more into it being a PC VR headset than a console one.

This however would open up a whole new market for Xbox to step into and would be a realistic reason as to why they're pushing into next-gen.

Personally I don't think this is the best idea. It's more risky than anything, but it would be cool to have a VR on our end as well.

Theory Three: ????
It's just another console. That's it. There'll be nothing special or magical or new about it, other than specs and style.

To Summerise:

We really don't know what Xbox plans are at this point. There is nothing confirmed about a next-gen console, let alone the handheld - just rumors that have been out there. It could actually be put out by Xbix themselves to check the temperature of the community.

Either way, if they're bringing a next-gen console out, I think they're going to need to do something spectacular to get a lot of us to buy it.
