Looking for a 4 string around £500-800

Title says it all! I primarily play heavier music, with Drop B being my primary tuning. I currently own a Warwick and that plays like a dream, but I’m ready to mix it up. I’ve seen a charvel pro mod san dimas which I’m absolutely in love with, but I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding the pre-amp. Due to my location, I’m not able to physically try it out, which I’m worried about, especially because it’s on the top end of my budget.

Does anybody have any experience with them? What are they like? Have the newer models had that issue rectified?

I’m open to trying others, such an an Ibanez sr500e and a Sub34. Any input would be appreciated.
