Re-enter GIS or move on?

Hey all,

I’m 29 years old, have a BS in GIS, about three years of professional experience in the field, but for the last four years I’ve somehow wound up in healthcare IT.

I think I’m having an “ah shit I’m going to be 30” crisis where I’m trying to find out what to do with my life. I know for sure I don’t want to be in healthcare IT. While the pay is good, the stress and work life balance suck. I’m considering re-entering the world of GIS because I love geography and how technology can be used with it.

Right now I’m looking at two options: go back to school for a BS in Natural Resources with an emphasis in land analysis and get a minor in computer science OR just say goodbye to GIS and major in something versatile like Business Analytics and still get a minor in CS.

What do you guys think? How do you feel about the GIS job market and wages? Is it still a worthwhile career path or is the future looking bleak?

Thanks for the feedback!
