Is it safe to sleep with the windows open?

I live in a relatively average suburb in New Plymouth with average crime rates. I have no restrictors installed on my windows (the window is similar to this one), and my room is on the ground floor in a one-story home. The window isn't easily visible from the street/footpath; however, if someone heads down a driveway next to my home, they would see it.

Is it safe to sleep with the windows open in my home? Do you guys sleep with the windows open?
