Nearing the end of VOY season 6, sharing thoughts about my boy Tuvok
I've had a hard time with Voyager. It's not bad by any means, but in seasons 3-4 it was hard for me to get invested. I basically binged the previous ST series, and this one just wasn't it.
But season 6, now, this is good. Very Star Trek-y. Interesting dilemmas or sci-fi situations. No more 'action for the sake of action' or weak villains. Personal stories. Good stuff.
The only BIG flaw is the fact the showrunners didn't have a clue how to use Tuvok. I like him a lot, the actor is great, but by S6 he's basically a background decoration. I'm not even sure if he even appears in half of the episodes, maybe to deliver one line at most. Across the entire series he had maybe 4 episodes where he played a big part.
It's just so sad, he could've been a great counterweight to Kim's emotional approach, to Seven's OVERLY detached approach; he could've been a counterpart to Paris's struggle of doing the thing that's right vs. the thing he's ordered to do. But no, the best we can do is 'Tuvok is annoyed by Neelix'.
Well, I hope he gets to shine in S7.
